ÖBB Annual Report 2025
Group Management Report 118 Österreichische Bundesbahnen-Holding Aktiengesellschaft Consolidated Financial Statements | Group Management Report 75 Targets and measures related to pollution Within the ÖBB Group, the reduction of NO x emissions – a known air pollutant in the buildings and transportation sector – is correlated with the target and action plans for the mobility decarbonization pathway. Further information can be found in Chapter E.2 “Environmental information” under “E1 Climate change.” ESRS E2-3.22, 23.a, 25; ESRS 2.MDR-T.81 Air pollution Similar to greenhouse gas emissions, common air pollutants (NO 2 , NO X ...) are largely emitted during combustion processes at ÖBB. Emissions occur in the transportation sector, e.g. diesel use in rail, bus and internal transportation, as well as in the building sector. The gradual electrification of the railway network, the use of the latest engine technologies, the gradual switch to alternative drive systems in bus and rail operations and the conversion to renewable energy sources in buildings will gradually reduce NO x emissions. The following company-specific key figures for air pollutant reduction are intended to provide an insight into the key areas for NO x reduction. ESRS E2-4.30.a Air pollutant reduction 2025 2024 Amount of nitrogen oxides (NO X ) from ÖBB Group’s diesel consumption (train and bus) ÖBB Group in tons 1) 1,279 1,250 Österreichische Postbus AG | ČSAD AUTOBUSY České Budějovice a.s. ESRS E2-4.28.a, 30.b, c, 31. 2) Company-specific information related to IRO E2-A-1 (reporting date December 31, 2025) in accordance with ESRS 2.SBM-3.48.h. Anticipated financial effects of material risks and opportunities related to pollution ÖBB has deposited financial resources to implement its decarbonization strategy. The investment plans of the sub-groups and companies are queried annually as part of the budget and medium-term planning (budget planning for the next year, medium-term planning for a further five years). An excerpt from the planned investment volume in relation to the outlined climate change mitigation action plans can be found in Chapter E.2. “Environmental Information” under “E1 Climate Change.” ESRS E2-6.40.b E4 Biodiversity and ecosystems ÖBB’s extensive railway network in Austria connects communities, cities and countries. In doing so, it crosses the habitat of countless plants and animals. ÖBB aims to minimize negative effects on biodiversity. To this end, structural steps in particular are being taken to increase the efficiency of existing transportation spaces as well as to create new habitats for plants and animals. Impact, risk and opportunity management The general process to determine and assess the material impacts, financial risks and opportunities is comprehensively illustrated in Chapter E.1 “General information” under “Management of impacts, risks and opportunities.” Please refer to this section if needed. ESRS E4-1.IRO-1.17.a In accordance with the ESRS requirements, actions to avoid or reduce negative impacts on biodiversity and ecosystems are not shown in the report as “positive effects,” but as preventive or mitigating actions. The following significant actual or potential impacts, risks and opportunities for the ÖBB Group resulted from the double materiality analysis. The impacts E4-A-2 to E4-A-4 relate primarily to the ÖBB Infrastruktur sub-group. The chapter therefore clearly highlights which information applies to the entire ÖBB Group and which only applies to the ÖBB Infrastruktur sub-group. The references listed in the chapter on ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG can also be found in the Group management report of the ÖBB-Infrastruktur sub-group. | MR75 E. Non-financial statement E.1.
