This action mainly affects the company’s own value chain and is implemented in all regions where vehicle maintenance is carried out. Being imple- mented E5-A-1 E5-A-2 E5-A-3 5 Component reconditioning ÖBB continuously focuses on the refurbishment, repair and reuse of components in order to extend their service life, minimize waste, conserve resources and reduce costs. The action affects the upstream and downstream value chain and is being implemented on an ongoing basis in all regions in which ÖBB operates. Being imple- mented E5-A-1 E5-A-2 E5-A-3 6 Reuse of end-of- life vehicles ÖBB continuously carries out a reuse process for end-of-life vehicles in order to conserve resources, minimize waste and reduce the environmental impact by dismantling and recycling components. This action affects the company’s own value chain as well as the downstream value chain and is implemented in all regions where end-of-life vehicles are managed. Being imple- mented E5-A-1 E5-A-2 E5-A-3 7 Reinstallation of rails ÖBB reconditions old, still usable rails and reuses them in new projects in order to conserve resources, reduce waste and extend the product life cycle. Rails that cannot be reused are recycled. Being imple- mented E5-A-1 E5-A-2 E5-A-3 8 Reinstallation of concrete sleepers ÖBB recycles old, still usable concrete sleepers and reuses them in new track construction projects in order to conserve resources and reduce waste. Sleepers that can no longer be used are used elsewhere or recycled professionally. The action affects the upstream and downstream value chain and is being implemented on an ongoing basis in all regions in which ÖBB- Infrastruktur AG operates. Being imple- mented E5-A-1 E5-A-2 E5-A-3 9 Reclaiming track ballast ÖBB is increasingly using track-laying machines to excavate, screen and reuse track ballast. The aim is to extend service life, conserve resources and reduce waste. Gravel that cannot be recovered is recycled professionally. The action affects the upstream and downstream value chain and is being implemented on an ongoing basis in all regions in which ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG operates. Being imple- mented E5-A-1 E5-A-2 E5-A-3 10 Waste Management Platform (AWPF) ÖBB revised the AWPF in 2025 to optimize Group-wide waste management and improve user-friendliness. The platform is being continuously developed and will be multi-client capable in the future in order to centrally record and analyze waste data. The aim is more efficient disposal, better data quality and improved control of waste flows. The action affects the internal and downstream value chain and applies to all geographical areas of the ÖBB companies. Being imple- mented E5-A-3 11 Sustainability assessment Concrete demolition By 2028, 100% of new construction and expansion projects are to be examined as part of the project-specific environmental assessment with regard to the on-site recovery of concrete demolition under technical, economic and legal requirements in order to ensure the best possible recovery in the construction project. Being imple- mented E5-A-1 E5-A-2 E5-A-3 12 Employee training courses Ongoing training of the responsible employees in sustainability issues for data collection and dealing with circular economy issues in the context of the objectives. The scope of consideration extends to the employees of ÖBB- Infrastruktur AG.
