ÖBB Annual Report 2025

5 Management & Supervisory Board Mag. a Brigitte Ederer Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of ÖBB-Holding AG Foreword by the Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board Reliable. ÖBB lives up to its responsibility to enable mobility, support the economy and protect the climate. A high level of quality and good service are now more important than ever in view of the rising challenges. Over the past year, ÖBB once again faced a variety of significant challenges. Persistently high demand for passenger transport, high utilization of our network capacity and the influence of external factors made the complexity of maintaining reliable, high-quality rail operations quite clear. The continuing popularity of passenger transport confirms that ever more people are opting for rail as their preferred means of transportation. This development is encouraging and reinforces ÖBB’s resolve to stay its course. Punctuality, safety and service quality therefore remain key issues that we must take very seriously. After all, rail transportation will only remain attractive to customers over the long term if the services are actually delivered as promised. This applies equally to goods transportation, where the weak economy and intense competition, above all with road transportation, are currently posing particularly great challenges for ÖBB. In this area, there is also a need for policy frameworks and concrete measures to ensure that the domestic and European economies can continue to rely on sustainable transportation services. Laying tracks for the future One particular highlight of the past year was the opening of the Koralm Railway. This landmark project is a milestone for mobility in Austria and the product of a longstanding policy of investing in railway infrastructure. Ultimately, ÖBB owes its success to its employees. Their dedication, expertise and daily efforts – often under difficult conditions – make it possible for such a complex system to function reliably. For this, they deserve our deepest gratitude. I would also like to thank the Board of Management for its conscientious leadership in a challenging environment. ÖBB is well positioned to strengthen its role as the backbone of sustainable mobility – in the interests of the population, the economy and our society as a whole. BRIGITTE EDERER.
