This consumption is not included in the previous year’s figure (previous year: 903.4 t CO 2 e). 3) Greenhouse gas emissions associated with district heating consumption are anticipated to increase initially as oil- and gas-fired heating systems are replaced with alternative energy sources by 2030. Thereafter, they are expected to decline, among other reasons, as a result of the decarbonisation programmes implemented by district heating suppliers. 4) This includes investments in rail infrastructure covered by the Scope 3 target set out in subsection “E1-3 E1-4”. The target pertains to the materials and trades installed in 2022. Owing to fluctuations in construction activity resulting from project compositions, necessary maintenance activities and unforeseeable events, greenhouse gas emissions reported in the greenhouse gas inventory may increase even where the target has been achieved. This may occur because, despite emissions reductions having been realised, larger investments and, consequently, greater quantities of materials may be required, resulting in an increase in total greenhouse gas emissions. For a detailed explanation of the target and to facilitate the assessment of target attainment, reference is, therefore, made to subsection “E1-3 E1-4”. In view of the fact that the share of Scope 3 emissions from Category 2 was calculated using an activity-based approach (see also the table below for a detailed description of the calculations), it has been excluded from the spend-based approach and, therefore, does not correspond to the values reported by the ÖBB Group, whose baseline consists entirely of values calculated using a spend-based approach. 5) Does not represent a material GHG category, but is reported voluntarily. For more detailed information, please refer to the table below for further descriptions of the Scope 3 GHG categories.
