As a mobility and logistics provider, ÖBB is the clear number one in Austria 100+ years after its founding and a leading player and innovation driver in Europe. To maintain this position, ÖBB is placing a strong focus on “Quality” in 2024. Going back to the future with quali RECORD OF THE CEN- TURY. Never before have so many people travelled by train and bus in Austria. Last year alone, ÖBB welcomed over 490 million passengers. This boom in the railway sector is, however, ac- companied by a number of challenges A lmost 500 million passengers in 2023 will be a record for ÖBB in the truest sense of the word. In the year of its 100th anniversary more people travelled by train and bus than ever before. Long-distance transport has played a major role in this, with ÖBB having grown by 20 percent over the past five years and is now the European leader in overnight journeys. ÖBB is also now active in freight transport in 18 countries and is number two in Europe. The enthusiasm for rail and public transport is now pushing the railways to their capacity limits, especially at weekends and on busy days such as public holidays. At the same time, customer expectations are rising. Unpunctuality, lack of space, dirty carriages or even cancellations or train evacuations meet with little understanding. Rail and bus undertakings are therefore required to literally “pick up” their passengers in such a way that they are happy to get on board again and again. This also applies to freight transport, where customers expect a reliable service and adherence to promised delivery dates. ÖBB’s aim is to fully restore the accustomed quality that has made it so successful in recent years and that points the way to sustainable and affordable mobility. The focus is particularly on the topics of “reliability”, “punctuality”, “cleanliness”, “safety” and “service”.
