For a reliable future 24 W orking for ÖBB today has nothing to do with the old image of the railwayman. Digitalisation and technological progress have changed many job profiles and activities which used to require muscle power to perform are now accomplished by mouse click. There are also new pro- fessions in the digital sector, known as green jobs, as well as professions in the service and tourism sectors. As varied as ÖBB’s 135 job profiles are, they all have one thing in common: every job is secure and crisis-proof. Rising passenger numbers and the responsibility as the largest mobility company in the country mean that ÖBB is constantly expanding its workforce. In addition, approx. a fifth of ÖBB’s current workforce are due to enter retirement in the next few years. ÖBB therefore plans to take on a total of approx. 17,500 new employees by 2028 – i.e. approx. 3,500 every year throughout Austria. ÖBB is number 4 among the most attractive employers As the largest climate protection company in the country, ÖBB also offers meaningful work. A criterion that is becoming increasingly important for young people and those who want to contribute to a sustainable and better future. What also characterises ÖBB as an employer is the wide range of opportunities for promotion – including for career changers – and opportunities for professional development. This is confirmed by the 2023 Employer Study, in which ÖBB once again improved compared to 2021 and moved up to fourth place out of 48 companies surveyed in the attractiveness ranking. ÖBB is also particularly valued for the fact that it “offers jobs throughout Austria” and is “important for the Austrian economy”. The attractiveness of ÖBB is above average among its customers and among younger people. ÖBB is now also one of the top 5 employers of women in the country. More and more women moving ahead No wonder. ÖBB not only applies the principle of “equal pay for equal perfor- mance”, it also creates attractive condi- tions for female colleagues with special coaching and career programmes as well as a wide range of offers to improve the compatibility of work and family life. After all, there is no job at ÖBB that a woman is not able to take on. A generational shift cannot be achieved without increasing the proportion of women. ÖBB therefore wants to increase its proportion of women to over 17 percent by 2026. The propor- tion of women at management level is already 19 percent – at Executive Board, Management Board and Super­ visory Board level it is even a remarkable 38.5 percent. < Digitalisation and technical progress have changed many activities at ÖBB.
