ÖBB Annual Report 2025

Group Management Report 110 Österreichische Bundesbahnen-Holding Aktiengesellschaft Consolidated Financial Statements | Group Management Report 67 Metrics and targets Targets related to climate change mitigation and climate change adaptation Through its targets, ÖBB is making a significant contribution to a climate-neutral economy in Europe by 2050. As a nationally and internationally active group – with sites inside and outside the EU – ÖBB is pursuing decarbonization in accordance with European requirements and the achievement of climate neutrality. The Group target is net zero by 2050: a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of 90% compared to the base year 2022 and offsetting any remaining emissions. For Austria, the reduction is being prioritized, particularly in the areas of mobility and buildings with planned progress through to 2035. Internationally, ÖBB is pursuing a target achievement by 2050. ÖBB supports the Paris Climate Agreement and is guided by the 1.5 degree target and the SBTi pathways: -42% GHG reduction by 2030 and -90% by 2050 compared to the base year 2022. ESRS E1-4.30, 31 The overarching Group target (in Austria and international) and the target for Austria focuses on decarbonization in the areas of mobility, buildings (both Scope 1 and 2), and Scope 3 emissions. The following summary table (applicable to all fully consolidated ÖBB companies) shows the quantitative GHG reduction contributions (gross targets) of the individual decarbonization levers and takes into account the cumulative reduction effects of the current portfolio of actions. The target information fulfills the requirements of ESRS E1-4.34.a, b, c, d, e, f; ESRS E1-4.AR.30; requirements of MDR-T.80.b, c, d, e, g, j were taken into account. 2) Necessary target to achieve the cross-sector reduction pathway according to SBTi: -42% in 2030 and -90% in 2050, compared to the base year 2022. 3) Additional information on Scope 1 and 2 (in thousand tons CO 2 e): Decarbonization area mobility 2022 – ÖBB total: 331 thousand tons (= Scope 1: 259 thousand tons; Scope 2: 72 thousand tons) and AT: 226 thousand tons (= Scope 1: 226 thousand tons; Scope 2: 0.059 thousand tons); decarbonization area buildings 2022 – ÖBB total: 54 thousand tons (= Scope 1: 36 thousand tons; Scope 2: 18 thousand tons) and AT: 49 thousand tons (Scope 1: 33 thousand tons; Scope 2: 16 thousand tons). 4) Information on the target with Scope 2 Location-based: Decarbonization area mobility, base year 2022 (in thousand tons): 465 (AT: 353) 2030 (-42%): 270 (AT: 205) 2050 (-90%): 47 (AT: 35); decarbonization area buildings, base year 2022 (figures in thousand tons): 109 (AT: 105) 2030 (-42%): 63 (AT: 61) 2050 (- 90%) 11 (AT: 10). 5) Reduction through use / promotion of decarbonization developments from Austrian Federal Railways value chain value chain (approach 10% by 2030). 6) Decarbonization area mobility and buildings in 2035 domestically (details on the 2035 target development for AT). ÖBB has already set targets for reducing GHG emissions years ago and has published them in the corresponding sustainability reports / annual reports. These have been adjusted to the 2030 and 2050 target horizons. For mobility and buildings domestically, an additional target of climate neutrality by 2035 applies. In addition, there are targets for the use of renewable energy and climate change adaptation. All targets were compared with risks and opportunities. ESRS E1-4.33 ÖBB is supported on its decarbonization pathway by the Environment Agency Austria. The base year is 2022, as it is no longer influenced by pandemic effects. The selected targets apply to all fully consolidated companies. The ÖBB Group is currently not yet fully on the linear pathway to the interim target for 2030 (-42% compared to 2022). This applies in particular to Scope 3 emissions, which are heavily dependent on developments in the supply chain (especially categories 3.1 and 3.2). Additional action plans are therefore defined for the areas of mobility, buildings and Scope 3. This is done in consideration of economic conditions, in coordination with service purchasers and by leveraging advances in the value chain. All action plans are recorded, evaluated and monitored annually. ESRS E1-4.34.e | MR67 E.  Non-financial statement E.1. General information E.2. Environmental inform ation E.3.
