Ongoing E4-A-3 Preventive measures for invasive alien species In order to minimize the unintentional spread of invasive alien species caused by transport, regular cleaning of means of transport and fumigation of containers and freight cars are carried out. Ongoing E4-A-1 1) ESRS 2.MDR-T.80.j; ESRS 2.MDR-A.68.e. 2) VIF ... transportation infrastructure research. Key figures for impacts related to biodiversity and ecosystem change Significant locations of the ÖBB-Infrastruktur sub-group that overlap with biodiversity-sensitive areas are listed in subchapter SBM-3 in Chapter E.1 “General information” under ”Material impacts, risks, and opportunities and their interaction with strategy and business model.” The ÖBB Infrastruktur sub-group is a direct impact driver in terms of land use change. ESRS E4-5.35; ESRS E4-5.38 In 2024, ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG commissioned the Institute for Landscape Development, Recreation and Nature Conservation Planning at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna to update the 2021 ÖBB potential area analysis. The target was to obtain an up-to-date overview of the land cover and potential uses of all railroad land. Due to the availability of new data sets, the analysis could be carried out in more detail. 45 The land area balance shows that the ÖBB Infrastruktur sub-group has more unsealed forest and meadow areas than sealed transportation space. The area balance is updated at intervals of several years as required. Sealed: Parking and transportation space, buildings; Semi-sealed: Railroad ballast, gravel areas, gardens; Unsealed: Grassland, arable land, forest, and shrub areas. Institute for Landscape Development, Recreation and Conservation Planning, BOKU University. Vienna. Land use has been recognized as having a significant impact on biodiversity loss and the size and condition of ecosystems. This is accompanied by temporary or permanent habitat changes due to the construction of transportation infrastructure and associated plants. 45 Various publicly available databases were used to determine Austria-wide land coverage by ÖBB properties (including the Environment Agency Austria, the Federal Office of Metrology and Surveying, and OpenStreetMap contributions). The latest available data records were used.
