ÖBB Annual Report 2025

123 Group Management Report Österreichische Bundesb ahnen-Holding Aktiengesellschaf t Consolidated Financial Statements | Group Management Report 80 Target Upgrade of bird protection on overhead lines by 1,000 km by 2030 Status 1 ) Target scope 2) Expansion of bird protection actions as part of new construction or maintenance work on ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG overhead lines. Being implemented Methodology 3) The target is to largely eliminate the risk of electrocution to large birds on the overhead line masts in the sections that are relevant from a bird conservation perspective. Internal experts and stakeholders were involved in defining the target by helping to determine the relevant sections and a path that could be implemented in practice. Action Installation of bird protection on overhead lines 4) 5) The bird protection actions are being taken both in the existing network and in new or converted overhead line systems, preventing short circuits and fatal electric shocks to animals. Being implemented LIFE Danube Free Sky – bird protection project 4) 5) Bird protection actions are being taken on three different routes in eastern Austria as part of an EU Life project that involves 15 partners in seven countries along the Danube. ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG is the only railroad infrastructure operator involved in this project. This project will fit a total of 63 kilometers of track lines with a total of almost 900 bird protection caps. Being implemented 1) ESRS 2.MDR-T.80.j; ESRS 2.MDR-A.68.e. 2) ESRS 2.MDR-T.80.c. 3) ESRS 2.MDR-T.80.a, f, g. 4) ESRS 2.MDR-A.68.a, b, c. 5) The action is implemented at the level of ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG. Target Creation of 30 biodiversity islands by 2030 Status 1) Target scope 2) Biodiversity islands are to be created on the existing ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG route network. These will take on an important function as an ecological stepping-stone. Being implemented Methodology 3) Suitable areas will be selected following a survey of nature conservation, technical, operational, and organizational conditions. A decision tree is being used for the selection process. Internal experts and stakeholders were involved in defining the target by helping to determine a path that could be implemented in practice. Action Establishment of biodiversity islands 4) 5) To encourage biotope cross-linking, near-natural biodiversity islands for wild bees, insects, birds, reptiles, and small mammals are being created along the railroad lines to establish habitats and stepping-stone biotopes. Target Increase in transportation space efficiency to 238.7 m²/1,000 train kilometers by 2030 Status 1) Target scope 2) The transportation space efficiency (m² railroad in the entire ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG network per 1,000 train kilometers traveled per year) of the rail infrastructure is to be increased. Being implemented Methodology 3) This action focuses on process optimization for the planned implementation of the new and expansion projects laid out in the ÖBB framework plan, so as to achieve the capacity targets and take greater account of land consumption in infrastructure developments and new-build and expansion projects. Internal experts and stakeholders were involved in defining the target by helping to determine a path that could be implemented in practice. Action Process optimization, implementation of framework plan 4) 5) Process optimization for the scheduled implementation of new and expansion projects to achieve capacity targets. Being implemented Space-conserving new construction and upgrades 4) 5) Consideration of land consumption in infrastructure developments, new construction and expansion projects Planned 1) ESRS 2.MDR-T.80.j; ESRS 2.MDR-A.68.e. 2) ESRS 2.MDR-T.80.c. 3) ESRS 2.MDR-T.80.a, f, g. 4) ESRS 2.MDR-A.68.a, b, c. 5) The action is implemented at the level of the ÖBB Infrastruktur sub-group. Target Demolition of 90 vacant and unused buildings that are economically or technically suitable for demolition, so as to reduce the current level of sealing by 2030 Status 1) Target scope 2) The buildings are managed by ÖBB-Immobilienmanagement GmbH. Planned Methodology 3) Once the economic or technical conditions for demolition have been determined, a dispensability review process will be initiated in which all relevant specialist services are involved. If there are no objections, the building can be demolished. Internal experts and stakeholders were involved in defining the target by helping to determine a path that could be implemented in practice. Action Execution of demolition work 4) 5) Planning, coordination, and execution of demolition work in accordance with planning specifications. Planned 1) ESRS 2.MDR-T.80.j; ESRS 2.MDR-A.68.e. 2) ESRS 2.MDR-T.80.c. 3) ESRS 2.MDR-T.80.a, f, g. 4) ESRS 2.MDR-A.68.a, b, c. 5) The action is implemented at the level of the ÖBB Infrastruktur sub-group.
