ÖBB Annual Report 2025

11 Step by step into the future Next-generation rescue train SERVICEJET. Extinguishing fires, towing trains that weigh 2,000 tons, evacuating people or supplying defective trains with power – the new Service- jet, a rescue train of the latest generation, can do all this and more. It has been ready for use since the Koralm Railway went into operation. By the beginning of 2028, 18 new Servicejets should be available throughout Austria. The future of mobility APPRENTICES. In September 2025, 760 new apprentices, 25 percent of whom are female, started their apprenticeships at ÖBB. A new record and yet only the beginning. The new apprenticeship package involves an investment of EUR 5 million. By 2027, another 300 appren- ticeship positions will be added in order to train specialists for the demands of the mobility transition. Upgrading the Vienna suburban railway EASTERN REGION. To cope with the growing number of passengers in and around Vienna, extensive modernization measures will be carried out by 2027 on what is known as the main line, as well as on connecting lines in Lower Austria. Extending the length of platforms will allow lon- ger, more modern trains to run on these lines, offering our passengers greater space and comfort. Implementation of the ETCS digital train control system will also increase the reliability of rail operations and lay the groundwork for more frequent train service and shorter waiting times.
