ÖBB Annual Report 2025

175 Group Management Report Öste rreichische Bundesbahnen-Holding Aktie ngesellscha ft Consolidated Financial Statements | Group Management Report 132 Target (continued) Increase customer satisfaction to 76 points by 2030 (ÖBB Infrastructure sub-group) Status 1) Action Raising awareness of hazards on railway installations 4) 5) The topic of “safety at railway facilities” is also of particular importance, which is why it is necessary to raise awareness of the dangers on railroad installations. Every year, people in Austria have accidents on railway tracks as a result of carelessness, ignorance and recklessness. Some of them are fatal. In order to prevent these accidents, it is important to inform and educate young people in particular. For this reason, a safety campaign is launched every year at the start of school to promote safe behavior in the vicinity of railroad facilities. This means that one of the most important and potentially most vulnerable stakeholder groups is involved in direct interaction. In addition, safety lectures are offered to schools in Austria to raise awareness of the dangers at railroad facilities. These last for one school hour and are held by specially trained ÖBB safety lecturers. Every year around the International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) at the beginning of June, special attention is paid to raising awareness of the correct behavior at railroad crossings. Ongoing Safety action plan 4) 5) Safety is always the top priority for all activities in the ÖBB Infrastructure sub-group. The safety action plan is based on findings from incidents, accident investigation reports, internal reviews (safety checks, audits, etc.), and trend monitoring by ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG. The following priorities are relevant for consumers and end-users: – Prevention of accidents at railroad crossings by removing railroad crossings, installing overpasses or underpasses at railroad crossings, and upgrading to technically secured railroad crossings. – Reduction of the risk of derailment by installing train monitoring checkpoints. – Reduction of the risk of collision by installing clear track signaling systems, retrofitting of inductive train protection systems (PZB / Indusi), and expanding the use of ETCS. Ongoing Park & ride 4) 5) The intelligent linking of different modes of transportation is essential for a sustainable and efficient transportation system. Park & ride facilities (P&R) represent the interface between motorized private transport and the railroad system. In particular, this facilitates easier access to rail services for people who live in places with poor or non-existent public transport connections. Implementation is carried out together with the P&R contractual partners (provinces/municipalities). Access systems and other measures to ensure that P&R facilities are actually available to public transport users support efficient, targeted use. Planning for new or expanded P&R facilities also includes coordination with the provinces and municipalities as contractual partners to improve connections to the transport station (public transport, cycling) in order to strengthen climate-friendly alternatives to traveling by car. Ongoing Bike & ride 4) 5) The construction and upgrade of bike & ride (B&R) facilities is intended to make access to the railroad easier. Bicycles represent an important link in the mobility chain, and providing B&R facilities at railway stations in the ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG network makes a significant contribution to sustainable mobility. Together with the provinces and municipalities as contractual partners, we are working on a rapid and demand-oriented upgrade of bicycle parking spaces. The provision of covered parking spaces and the upgrade of parking spaces with increased security (e.g. bicycle boxes) will create a high-quality offering geared towards the needs of different target groups. Target Upgrade of accessible rail and bus fleet for B2C customers Status 1) Target scope 2) The target relates to rail and bus transportation for ÖBB’s B2C customers in Austria and abroad. Being imple- mented Methodology 3) In order to ensure that the railroad system is equally accessible for everyone – including people with disabilities and people with reduced mobility – the ÖBB Group wants to expand its barrier- free services to the point of complete accessibility. The key figure is developing as planned in the direction of the defined target. Action Structural upgrades 4) 5) In order to improve accessibility for all ÖBB Group customers, the entire vehicle fleet is subject to an ongoing modernization process. The focus here is on making wheelchair accessibility possible, meeting EU requirements for barrier-free travel, and the visual and acoustic passenger information system. Ticket purchase is also to become barrier-free. To this end, a tender was issued in 2022 for a new generation of ticket vending machines with accessible operation. Since mid-2024 they are now being continuously installed and tested at train stations throughout Austria. This means that the existing vending machines will be gradually replaced. Until then, the following additional actions will ensure improved accessibility: – Lower plinths are being installed for easier access to the controls – Link Customer Service to the ticket machines via a remote connection to provide support if someone has questions – Mode for “easy access” so that customers can purchase a ticket for a journey using plain and easy-to-understand language.
