ÖBB Annual Report 2025

23 Step by step into the future Graz; between Frohnleiten, Graz and Leibnitz even every half hour, including on weekends. The trains of the Salz kammergut Railway will also be extend- ed to Selzthal, thereby improving the Styrian local transportation network. New trains for inner-Alpine transportation A passenger transport investment pack- age amounting to EUR 6.1 billion will bring 330 new, modern trains by 2030. Interregio trains of type Desiro ML are currently used mainly on the inner-Alpine routes. The 27 barrier-free trains offer a 1st class section, WiFi, a bicycle and multi-purpose section and a snack zone with trolley service. Begin- ning in 2028, new long-distance trains will be used on the IR lines. The Railjet M was developed on the basis of the internationally proven Mireo platform, but it has been completely redesigned and adapted for inner-Alpine transportation while offering state-of-the-art long-distance comfort. ÖBB has ordered 31 train sets from Siemens Mobility for this purpose. Upgrade for the Railjets With the opening of the Koralm Railway, the first upgraded Railjet also celebrated its debut. Whether families with baby carriages, business travelers with lap- tops, cyclists with backpacks or tourists with large suitcases: the modernized, barrier-free train sets are equipped for all needs, including barrier-free access, wheelchair spaces and practical bicycle storage. As part of the upgrade, the old first and second class seats in the existing Railjets will be replaced with new ones, and the seats in business class will be refurbished. The modernization also includes footrests, grab handles and larger folding tables. The design of the interior matches the look and feel of the new Railjet generation and is character- ized by a modern wood look and con- tinuous seatbacks for more privacy. An improved passenger information system and optimized storage for baby carriag- es provide still greater convenience to travelers. The existing Railjet fleet will be brought up to this standard by 2031. Connecting people and places All these measures add up to far more than denser and better-connected rail service: they represent a clear step forward for mobility throughout Austria. With long-distance services every hour on the Tauern line to Carinthia, new IR connections in the inner-Alpine region and international lines that link Austria even more closely with Europe, a network is being created that brings people and places closer together than ever before. The new timetable not only strengthens the major transportation axes to the south and west, it also con- nects people in more remote regions and valleys. ÖBB is making it easy for people to opt for the mobility of the future already today: sustainable, relaxed, quick and comfortable. < INTERREGIO LINES. Beginning in 2028, the Railjet M will offer state-of-the-art long-distance comfort New tempo on the Tauern Alongside the Brenner route, the Tauern line is the most important Austrian connection across the Alps, making it a main axis for Alpine transit. For over 100 years, trains on the Tauern line ran every two hours, but now they run every hour. MORE INFO in the Manageme nt Repor t on p ages MR21, MR24
