ÖBB Annual Report 2025

Step by step into the future 26 by the various ÖBB companies. Some of the initial measures were already implemented in 2025. After all, in the words of program supervisor and ÖBB CFO Manuela Waldner: “If you want to succeed, you have to act, not react.” As an overarching program, Compete plays a coordinating and steering role: progress and measures are regularly discussed and refined at the Board of Management level. Safety and quality remain top priority Safety and quality continue to be indispensable priorities. They are core values and represent the foundation for ÖBB’s competitiveness. Nor can operational performance be permitted to suffer. The planned volume of new hires remains constant at 4,100 employees per year, and ÖBB is particularly looking to expand its operational services workforce. Demand for passenger transport has been growing for years, while expecta- tions regarding quality, comfort and re- liability are also on the rise. At the same time, cost pressure and competition are increasing. National and international providers are focusing more and more on connections with a high passenger frequency. For ÖBB to remain competitive while ensuring that Austria enjoys an attractive range of transportation options, services must be structured even more precisely from economic and organizational perspectives. In the area of passenger transport, under the title “PV Efficiency,” ÖBB-Personenverkehr AG (PV) is putting its focus on optimal coordination of vehicle fleets, optimized maintenance processes and the improved sales and service offerings. One important factor is the availability of vehicles. Better alignment of main- tenance, spare parts management and deployment planning makes for more stable operations. At the same time, digital systems enable more precise coor- dination of routes and better harmoniza- tion of vehicle availability and timetables. For passenger transport (PV), effi- ciency therefore does not mean fewer services, but rather optimized use of all available resources – with the aim of continuing to offer passengers and commissioning authorities reliable and attractive mobility services.
