Areas of investment focus in 2025 In 2025, ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG continued to work intensively on implementing the projects from the 2025 to 2030 framework plan to realize the Target Network 2025+. The important infrastructure projects benefit the stability and quality, but also the capacity increase of the network. The projects will enable more services in conurbations and the decarbonization of rail transport, while digitalization and modernization measures will ensure that rail operations remain stable in the future. Eastern region and Greater Vienna In the Vienna metropolitan area, intensive work continued on the modernization of the Vienna main line in 2025 as part of the Vienna suburban railway upgrade. These and many other improvement measures along the north and south axes will create the conditions for a more frequent service and shorter waiting times. Another important piece of the inner-city transportation puzzle is making the connecting line between Hütteldorf and Meidling more attractive. In January 2026, the appeal proceedings against the EIA decision before the Federal Administrative Court (BVwG) were successfully concluded. The northern part of the eastern region and the greater Vienna area are benefiting from the upgrade of the northern line, which is progressing rapidly on the Vienna Süßenbrunn – Gänserndorf section. The four-track upgrade of the southern line between Vienna Meidling and Mödling, including the planned construction of two new stops, will make the mobility offer for the south of Vienna and the district of Mödling even more attractive. Planning for this continued in 2025. However, work has already begun on the four-track upgrade of the northern entrance to Wiener Neustadt’s central station. Further enhancements to the Pottendorf line in the Wampersdorf – Ebenfurth section have commenced. MR20 |
