For a reliable future 18 M odern trains, attractive offers and a clear conscience when using public transport have ensured that the number of ÖBB passen- gers is constantly increasing. Not even coronavirus and working from home have been able to put a lasting brake on the boom in rail and bus travel. Never- theless, the recent growth in passen- ger numbers – particularly due to the introduction of the climate ticket – has exceeded all expectations. Delays of up to two years for vehi- cles already ordered, but also problems with the delivery of important spare parts for the maintenance of the existing vehicle fleet and numerous weather influences, among other things, meant that ÖBB was not always able to fulfil its promise to customers in the form envisaged by its own standards last year. Sabine Stock, member of the Manage- ment Board of ÖBB-Personenverkehr AG: “The rapid increase in passenger num- bers after the coronavirus years present- ed numerous challenges for passenger transport in 2023. Investments in the ve- hicle fleet will increase capacity in both long-distance and local transport. For example, the new-generation Nightjet went on track in December 2023.
