ÖBB Annual Report 2023
17 For a reliable future Tech receives data and information “live” from the vehicle or from the track in order to be prepared for existing or imminent damage, is also being stepped up. 3D printing and the in-house refurbishment of numerous vehicle components make ÖBB-Train Tech less dependent on supply chains and ensure the reliability of older vehicles. Information: quality key to success Customer information is at least as important as the quality of the rolling stock. The aim is to make access to public mobility services as easy as possible and to provide passengers with the information they actually need or want, depending on the situation. In this context, one medium that plays a central role is the smartphone. The individual requirements of customers are best taken into consideration with different apps for different needs. In future, travellers who have registered for this service will be able to use geotracking to be kept even more up-to-date, needs-oriented and targeted on the move. Equally important, however, are the information services on site in the stations, on the platforms and on the buses and trains, which are constantly being expanded and further devel- oped. LED platform indicators provide information on whether you are standing on the right platform and whether the train is on time, departure monitors use colour indicators to show how much time is left until departure, and electronic carriage sequence indicators help you to find out which carriage will stop where. Digital information points will also be used more frequently, where all the key information about train connections and the station will be available centrally. Current and important information is announced via loudspeakers to inform people in particular who are unable to perceive visual information well or at all. Three different gongs distinguish between standard information, general information such as construction sites and special types of information such as faults. In the future, artificial intelligence is also set to improve the quality of information so that customers receive personalised advice that helps them. < ÖBB-Train Tech: the technical mainstay of the ÖBB fleet ÖBB-Technische Services (ÖBB-Train Tech), with approx. 4,000 employees at 25 locations across Austria, is responsible for the repair and mainte- nance of ÖBB’s rolling stock. Maintenance during breaks in the timetable, overhaul work in modules and “live” data from the vehicle or from the track as well as 3D printing and in-house reconditioning of components serve to ensure quality as demand increases.
