18/07 ÖBB drives training offensive – 2,000 new train drivers Over the next five years, 2,000 train drivers will be qualified. More than 400 people choose this profession every year. After 52 intensive weeks and passing the test, the qualified train drivers are allowed to occupy the driver’s cab independently and take responsibility for passengers and goods. 01/07 New Chief Financial Officer Manuela Waldner At its meeting on the 28th March, the Supervisory Board of ÖBB-Holding AG unanimously appointed Manuela Waldner (42) to the Management Board for a period of 5 years effective 1st July 2023. She succeeds Arnold Schiefer as CFO and is the first female member of the Executive Board of ÖBB-Holding AG. 08/09 Semmering Base Tunnel: break- through in Styria Seven years after the start of construction in the Grautschenhof section, the last drivage in the Steiermark was completed. The breakthrough from Grautschenhof to the western tunnel portal in Mürzzuschlag was successful. This means that more than 26 of the 27.3 km total length of the twin- tube tunnel have been excavated. 28/09 New campaign at ÖBB company headquarters The ÖBB Group headquarters is branded 18 storeys high. A projection asks visitors to the main railway station, drivers on the Gürtel and passers-by the self-confident question: “& WHAT’S YOUR RIDE?”. A special production as a visual highlight of the new ÖBB campaign. 06/07 Railjet double-decker trains debuting ÖBB is ordering additional double-decker trains from the existing frame- work agreement with vehicle manufacturer Stadler, including 14 six-unit trains for long-distance transport and 21 four-car trains for local transport. The first Railjet double-decker trains are scheduled to be in service for passengers on the western route as early as 2026. ÖBB is investing EUR 230 million in 18 multifunctional, innovative and low-emission high-tech hybrid service jets. The new fleet replaces diesel-powered rescue trains and ensures maximum safety in railway operations. 8/09 100 years of ÖBB: first train parade in 36 years. On the occasion of its 100th anniversary, ÖBB looks back on the develop- ment of the railway fleet at a vehicle parade in Strasshof an der Nordbahn. More than 1,200 visitors marvel at the unique spectacle. 12/09 Koralm railway: test runs at high speed. The entire sec- tion on the Kärnten side goes into operation at the end of the year. Testing is already underway on the finished sections alongside the final construction work. A top speed of up to 250 km/h.
